Key Metric:

78% of energy consumed in 2024 was produced from renewable sources

Energy efficiency and renewable generation are central to how we operate. At RYAM, we closely monitor our energy use across all facilities to improve transparency, identify opportunities for efficiency, and support our long-term decarbonization goals.

Our operations are powered primarily by renewable resources. In 2024, nearly 78% of our total energy consumption came from renewable sources—mostly biomass created as a byproduct of our manufacturing process. Each of our four biorefineries meets the majority of its energy needs by converting renewable fiber and lignin from the pulping process into steam and electricity. This closed-loop system minimizes waste and maximizes the energy potential of every tree.

Fossil fuels such as natural gas and oil are used only when necessary to supplement production, not to drive it. Through continuous improvement, targeted investments, and partnerships that expand renewable energy access, we remain committed to reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy and advancing a more sustainable energy profile across our operations.
