For Rosario Avila, RYAM’s Procurement Process Analyst in Procurement Excellence, Hispanic Heritage Month is “both a celebration and a reflection—a time to honor the richness of my culture, the resilience of my ancestors, and the diverse contributions of the Hispanic community.”
Rosario credits her heritage with shaping her professional journey through values deeply rooted in hard work, perseverance, and community. Growing up in a family where “everyone pitched in and supported one another” instilled in her the importance of collaboration and accountability—qualities she applies every day in her role. Being both bilingual and bicultural has also given her a distinctive approach to problem-solving and communication.
She treasures traditions like family gatherings and the cultural value of el respeto—respect—which guides how she builds relationships and tackles professional challenges. Rosario encourages her colleagues to “learn more, ask questions, and engage with curiosity,” believing that sharing our stories strengthens teams and fosters true inclusivity.
Drawing inspiration from the women in her family, from prominent Hispanic leaders like Blanca Avelina Treviño de Vega, and from everyday heroes in her community, Rosario sees Hispanic Heritage Month as more than a calendar event. For her, it’s an ongoing opportunity to celebrate, learn, and connect—not just in September and October, but throughout the year.
